Caring Companions
When children enter foster care, they often face hours alone, waiting in child welfare offices for placement. Our Caring Companions volunteers provide emotional support during this challenging transition.
What We Do
Providing care and companionship when it matters most.
On-Call Volunteers – Sit with children in child welfare offices and offer emotional support and comfort while they wait for placement and other services.
Go Bags + Essentials – Provide thoughtfully packed, age-appropriate backpacks filled with necessities, hygiene kits, and comfort items to ease the transition into foster care.
Support for Child Welfare Staff – Assist caseworkers by engaging with children so staff can find proper placement.
Support for Families Seeking Mental Health Services - Through a partnership with Family Solutions, our volunteers provide on-site care for children while family members receive counseling services
Small Commitment = Big Impact
Caring Companions serve just 1–4 hours a month, but in that short time, they bring comfort, safety, and a sense of calm to children entering foster care.
How It Works
Caring Companions are trained volunteers ready to provide immediate care.
Get Trained – Complete a brief orientation to learn how to support children in foster care
Be On-Call – Sign up for shifts at child welfare offices to be available when children need care.
Make a Difference – Provide comfort, play, and reassurance to children experiencing uncertainty.
Eligibility:
Caring Companions volunteers must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, and complete training before being placed in child welfare offices.
