May is Foster Care Awareness Month: Building Brighter Futures for Our Youth
Every May, we recognize National Foster Care Awareness Month—a time dedicated to uplifting the voices of children and youth in foster care, and honoring the families, caregivers, and professionals who walk alongside them.
Across the United States, nearly 400,000 children are currently experiencing foster care. Foster Care Awareness Month invites us all to pause, reflect, and ask an important question: How can we show up for these children and the people who support them?
Why Foster Care Awareness Matters
Foster care exists to provide safety and stability during times of uncertainty. But beyond basic needs, children deserve connection, belonging, and the opportunity to thrive.
Caregivers open their homes and hearts, often stepping into complex situations with compassion and courage - such as welcoming a child in the middle of the night with little more than a moment’s notice, helping them feel safe in an unfamiliar place, and gently building trust through consistent care, patience, and understanding. Alongside caregivers, caseworkers, advocates, educators, and community members all play vital roles in ensuring children feel seen, supported, and valued.
At Fosterful, we believe that meaningful support goes beyond placement. Since 2013, our work has centered on providing trauma-informed, personalized care that meets children and caregivers where they are.
From in-home support to community-based services, our team helps foster families navigate challenges, celebrate wins, and build lasting connections. Because when caregivers feel supported, children feel it too.
How You Can Make a Difference
You don’t have to be a foster parent to make an impact. There are many ways to support children and families in your community:
Learn and share information about foster care
Support local organizations serving foster families
Volunteer your time or skills
Advocate for policies that benefit children and caregivers
Show appreciation for foster parents and professionals
Small actions can create meaningful ripple effects.
A Shared Responsibility
Foster care is not just a system—it’s a community effort. When we come together to support children and families, we create a stronger, more compassionate future for everyone.
This May, join us in raising awareness, honoring caregivers, and standing with the children who deserve every opportunity to grow, heal, and belong.
